The year is 2347. Humanity, fractured and spread across the stars, clings to life in the aftermath of the Great Collapse. The hyperspace network, once a symbol of our boundless ambition, shattered like glass a century ago, isolating colonies and plunging civilizations into a new dark age. Some whispers claim it was a cosmic event, a ripple in spacetime too vast for our fragile technology to comprehend. Others speak of sabotage, of a shadowy cabal that orchestrated the Collapse to consolidate power. The truth, like so many things, is lost to the chaotic echoes of the past. You are Kai, a scavenger from the orbital junkyard of Kepler-186f. Life amongst the rusted hulls of decommissioned starships is brutal and unforgiving. Survival depends on your wits, your scavenged tech, and the fragile alliances you forge in the vacuum-sealed corridors. For years, you've eked out a meager existence, salvaging scrap metal and data fragments, trading them for recycled air and questionable rations. You've learned to trust no one, to look for the angle in every deal, and to live one day at a time. But today is different. While dismantling a derelict freighter, you stumble upon a hidden compartment, its seals miraculously intact. Inside, nestled amongst forgotten cargo and obsolete navigational systems, is a datapad. It's old, almost prehistoric, but its encryption is unlike anything you've ever seen. Curiosity, a dangerous but unavoidable trait in your line of work, gets the better of you. After days of painstaking effort, you manage to crack the encryption. What you find is more than just data. It's a map. A map to a previously uncharted sector of space, a region rumored to be rich with resources and free from the tyrannical rule of the Coalition, the interstellar power that now controls the majority of known systems. But the map isn't the only thing on the datapad. There's also a message, a desperate plea for help from a scientist stranded light-years away. He claims to have discovered a way to reactivate the hyperspace network, to reconnect humanity and usher in a new era of prosperity. But he needs your help to do it. This message, this map, this sliver of hope, could be your ticket out of the junkyard. It could be a chance to become something more than just another scavenger scraping by in the ruins of a fallen empire. Or, it could be a deadly trap, laid by the Coalition or some other unknown force lurking in the shadows of the galaxy. Your journey begins now. What will you choose? Hope, or oblivion?
